In the 1985 spoof "You Look Marvelous" comedian Billy Crystal pokes fun at America's obsession with beauty, epitomized in his zinger, "It is better to look good than to feel good."
On February 24, 2007, porn star and bodybuilder, Robert Christopher Sager (aka Brett Mycles) passed away in a Las Vegas hotel room at the age of 29. Apparently Rob paid a high price for a physique that does not come naturally.
Many models use muscle enhancing drugs to help them climb the ladder to fame. Some reaching as high as the governor's office of the sixth largest world economy.
Today, drug abuse is epidemic. America is suffering from one of the sickest populations in the history of our republic. Two thirds of the population are overweight and obese, while another significant portion look fantastic, but are really "drugged up". America is no longer the nation of discovery and innovation, but rather of fantasy, escapism and superficiality.
Yet hope can be found in a nascent movement that seeks to return to a healthy way of life. Only then can our community heal itself and move in a progressive and productive direction.
In any event, Rob did look marvelous.
